Deborah Carlson

Deb is a registered patent agent with Pauly, DeVries Smith & Deffner, LLC. Deb earned her Ph.D. from the department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Biophysics at the University of Minnesota. Her thesis work focused on using enzyme biochemistry, molecular biology, and fluorescence spectroscopy to understand the fundamental molecular motions required for heart muscle contraction, with the hopes to one day apply the findings to therapies for heart failure. Before graduate school she worked at the University of Minnesota as an Assistant Scientist specializing as a protein biochemist and molecular biologist.

Prior to joining our firm, Deb worked for 8 years alongside attorneys at Robins Kaplan LLC providing technical analysis and support for patent infringement litigation in the areas of biotechnology, biomedical devices, drug compositions, food science, mechanical engineering, and computer hardware and software.
